For Best Programming, the Community Education Department of West Bloomfield School District, West Bloomfield, Michigan USA. Ms. Joey Spano, accepting.
High school drop outs had few choices - - until the community education program set up Laker Academy, an alternative high school where at-risk students could attend class on a daily basis and graduate close to their original graduation time. In this new century where education is essential for every citizen in society, we need to create variety and choices. We need to respond to different learning styles. And we need to educate everyone. In just three years Laker Academy has doubled enrollments and graduated more than 65 young adults. The community ed program looked for new needs, and new markets. They’ve not just given these young people a second chance. They’ve given society 65 more productive contributing citizens.
