For community service, Djuna Forrester, Gainesville, Texas.
This is her brochure (coming soon), which is great. And she tripled enrollments over the previous year. But that's not why she is getting a community service award.
She is getting
an award for getting her nomination in late. And for her reason: her relatives
her being held hostage for several days by some prison escapees. She is getting
a community service award, because amid all her personal difficulties, she was
thinking about her program, about her community, and staying the course.
Djuna's commitment to staying the course illustrates what you all in lifelong
learning are doing, staying the course. Just by coming here, you took a risk.
You addressed the fear of flying, budget cutbacks, and you left your families
for this conference. You stayed the course. And more than just coming to this
conference, you are staying the course with your programs, continuing to serve
your communities, your audiences, during these difficult times for everyone
in society. Thank you Djuna, and you all, for your service to your communities,
and for staying the course.
